About Mur Gamusa:
"Mur Gamusa" is a Assamese song in the Trap/EDM genre produced by desi bass producer, Su Real, introducing vocalist Dekaa. The title translates to “My Gamusa”, where “gamusa” is a common traditional cloth from Assam that has many practical uses and many sociopolitical connotations as well. This song, however, is dedicated not only to the "gamusa"- wearing peoples of Assam but to all youth from regional cultures struggling to co-exist in the great Indian melting pot.
The concept for the song came about in October 2016 after a chance encounter at NH7 Weekender Shillong. Su Real recounts, “I had just finished my set, and it obviously involved a lot waving my gamusa around in the air! I’ve been taking the gamusa with me on stages since I started DJ’ing in Delhi in 2010. I wanted to represent my northeast roots. So after my set, I’m standing backstage thinking - I really need a song about the “gamusa”. That’s when this young fellow walks up and asks me, “hey are you Su Real?” We get to talking and he reveals that he is an Assamese MC. I ask if he can rap about the gamusa in Assamese? He replies yes, and just like that a genuine collaboration is born.”
Su Real continues, “I wanted to make a dark track that represents the brutal honesty of ground realities for youth in the Northeast. I introduced Dekaa to old school influences like U.S. rap groups Public Enemy and N.W.A. who were adept at conveying delicate matters in a poetic light but with an urgency that demands attention. Dekaa knocked the lyrics out of the park and did a tremendous job with the delivery - I think the vibe resonates even if you don’t understand the lyrics.”
